What is Hybrid Tower?

Concrete-steel Hybrid Tower ( Hybrid Tower) is an important component of wind turbines. The hybrid tower includes two parts: the upper part is made of steel, and the lower part is made of concrete.

Why using Hybrid Tower?

Globally, the average total installation cost of onshore wind power has decreased from $1913 per kilowatt in 2010 to $1497 per kilowatt in 2018. The Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) has decreased from $0.08 per kilowatt-hour in 2010 to $0.06 per kilowatt-hour in 2018 (data source: IRENA). 

To maintain economic efficiency, the decrease in the total installation cost and price of wind power has driven innovation and the application of new materials and technologies in the wind power industry, leading to the emergence and development of hybrid towers.

As the cost of wind power decreases, the single-unit installed capacity of wind turbines increases, which is accompanied by an increase in rotor diameter and hub height. These adjustments can not only expand the project scale, reduce the cost per unit of electricity, but also capture wind energy more efficiently under the same wind resource conditions; the higher hub height allows for higher wind speeds at the same location. To accommodate the trend of increasing capacity of wind turbines, ensure the safety and economy of turbine operation at high altitudes, safer and more cost-effective hybrid towers with height more than 180 meters have emerged.
